Weekend in NY

We headed to NY this weekend to attend a wedding (friends of Brian.) Brian took Friday off so we could make a long weekend of it. We stayed with the Pecorino's, but spent Friday visiting my parents.

My parents still have the playhouse my father built for Debby when she was a kid. Brennan loves playing it in. His favorite part seems to be the washer and dryer, which he uses to "wash" everything, including the baby doll itself, food, etc.

Here is Brennan enjoying a chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache icing. He insisted the cupcake remain in the cup holder.

Kerry and Philip came over for lunch on Saturday. Brennan was very interested in Kerry's camera and she graciously allowed him to try it out.

Brian's parents babysat Brennan while we were out. They took him out to dinner and it sounds like he ate better for them than he had for us in weeks! We had a lot of fun at the wedding and had a pretty easy drive home yesterday. Now I just need to get my head on straight for Thanksgiving!

Penguin Time Out

Brennan swiftly put the penguin in time-out this week and when I asked why, he shook his finger at the penguin and said, "no, no, hit." Ha! I guess the penguin hit someone and needed a time-out as result! LOL.

Welcome, Hat

Earlier this week, Brennan and I were out running a few errands. I decided to take a stroll through Petsmart with him so he could look at the animals. After looking at mice, ferrets, a chinchilla, birds, lizards, frogs and snakes, we ended up in the fish section. He seemed to enjoy looking at the clown fish, which he called Nemo. He also pointed out a few that resembled Dori. He got very excited about the beta fish, which were individually packaged in little containers. He wanted to pick them up and with close supervision, we started looking at a few of them. He liked this one best. I knew we already had a small tank at home because years ago, I had a beta, so I decided to indulge him and get the fish. We brought it home and he has been very interested in the fish ever since. I let him name the fish and chose the name, Hat. So, Hat it is. Welcome to our home, Hat!

Enjoying chilly, sunny weather!

Peter and Meghan were in town this last weekend for a visit and I can't believe that I didn't get any good pictures to share with you. I know Meg got a few good ones on her camera, so once I get some photos from her, I will update you on our weekend!

This week is turning out to be a beautifully cool week. It's been 60 and sunny everyday, and should continue this way through the weekend. Instead of going to the gym on Monday, I decided to bundle Brennan up in the stroller and take a walk for exercise. On the way home, we stopped at a small playground that belongs to the neighborhood next to us. Brennan really enjoyed climbing up the "rock wall."

In the photo below, you see him doing a pose that he recently picked up. Whenever he sees a post, he rests one hand on it and then crosses his leg and just stands there posing. He often asks me to do the same. I have no idea where he got this from, but it's pretty comical.

After spending almost two hours out in the brisk weather, Brennan was getting tired, so he got comfy in the stroller and we headed home. I thought he might doze off, but by the time we got home, he was re-energized and ready for lunch and more playtime before his nap.

First Time Trick-or-Treating

We had a fun Halloween weekend. I decided to get a second use of the Cat in The Hat hat from Brennan's birthday party and made a cat "body" using felt. I also made a tail, although you can't see it in any of the pictures. He didn't like the tail at first, but after wearing the costume twice, is now enamored by it and I think may be requesting it with his regular clothes today. To my surprise, he allowed me to paint whiskers and a black nose on his face. I distracted him with the TV and I'm not sure if he realized what I was doing! We went to my neighbor's Halloween party on Saturday night and everyone loved his little cat costume. Brian and I went as Thing 1 and Thing 2, which were semi-homemade costumes as well, including the wigs. I wasn't sure if we were going to look good or just look like we cheaped out on buying costumes, but overall, I think we pulled off a good family themed costume.

We planned on taking Brennan trick-or-treating for the first time. We figured he would actually get it this year and he did! We started with a few test runs at the neighbors' houses to try to show Brennan how it worked. However, thankfully, we were going with our five year old neighbor, Sydney, photoed below, so she and her cousin showed Brennan the ropes. After the first house, he was so excited about his M&Ms, which he calls "M-M-Ms," that he was ready to go home and eat them. We kept saying to wait, that he had to go to the next house for more candy. About five houses in, he realized what was going on and he was ready to go. As the person gave him the candy, he would say "more canny," "next house" and finally, "Halloween." I tried to encourage him to say thank you, but he currently says "bick" for thank you, so no one ever understands what he means, except for me! (We are working on that one.) The older girls would run to the next house and Brennan wasn't far behind screaming Sydney's name.


I took a lot of pictures while we were out, but the red-eye seems unresolvable in many of them, so I don't have many I can really share with you, but here is one of the little guy in action. We hit about 15-20 houses and then he started asking for "agua" and had a poopy diaper, so I put him in the wagon and headed home. Since it was a special night, I let him eat two fun size packs of M&Ms and watch The Incredibles before bedtime. In all, a very successful first time trick-or-treating!
