Downpour!

Brennan and I got a season pass for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NRVPA) Waterparks this summer. There is a waterpark minutes from where we live called Volcano Island, at Algonkian Park, so I thought we would get a lot of use out of it this summer. We've gone three times and yesterday, Brennan really came out of his shell. The park has a large kid pool that is no deeper than 1.5 feet, and has a play structure with water guns, sprinklers and two kid-sized tube slides. On top of the play structure is a huge bucket of water that slowly fills and tips over when full, dumping a massive amount of water down on the pool area. The downpour scared Brennan pretty seriously the first two trips to the pool, but yesterday, he lost his fear. Despite getting caught in the downpour a few times, he made consecutive trips down the slide for about an hour. He could get 2-3 slides in between downpours.

In addition to the tube slides, there is a smaller, gentler slide that doesn't get hit with the downpour from the bucket. Brennan liked goofing off here and walking down the slide, instead of going down on his tushy!

Brennan spent a lot of time wandering around the pool, flirting with the idea of getting close to the spray contraptions. He even started asking for the bucket while pointing to the huge bucket filling with water. He wanted to see the downpour and was willing to get closer and closer to it.
