The Teething, Toddling, Trantrum Throwing Tyler

When Brennan was a year old, this entire blog was about him and all his little accomplishments.  Tyler hasn't received quite as much direct attention on the blog, so I wanted to dedicate a post to him.  When he turned 1, Tyler only had three teeth - the two bottom center ones and his top right tooth had just started breaking through.  It's been a long summer, with low grade fevers galore, but in the last 8 weeks, seven more teeth broke through, including two top molars!  With a mouth full of teeth, his little smile is changing and it will soon be easier for him to chomp down on all the food he enjoys!  Tyler loves to imitate us and will mimic sounds we make, or things we do with our hands.  He started clapping, waving, and doing the signs for "all done" and "more" at mealtimes.  He has also taken an interest in using a fork or spoon to eat.  He has successfully been getting things like mashed potatoes, that stick to the utensil, from a bowl into his mouth with a spoon.

Tyler is an active guy.  He is constantly on the move.  He is easily able to get on and off his little zebra on his own and recently has been able to ride his pillow racer independently.  He loves to climb and always heads strait for any type of step stool in sight.  He understands what the remote is used for and often picks it up and presses buttons while pointing it at the TV.  We sometimes end up recording random things because he hits the record button for the DVR.  He also likes to dial the phone and put it to his ear.  Thankfully, he usually doesn't hit the call button.

Tyler loves playing outside on the deck, in the water table.  Brennan usually dumps water on his head, completely soaking him, but he doesn't mind.  Tyler has figured out how to use the funnels and loves to see the water run out of them.



In the last week, Tyler has really been trying to walk instead of crawl.  He's been making a ton of progress, as you can see in these videos.  Since the walking at this level began, he doesn't seem to want to crawl and as a result, has kind of given up going up and down the stairs on his own, something that he used to love doing!

 

 

 Tyler has a little bit of a temper that we've started to see more of lately.  His typical way of dealing with things he doesn't like is to charge the offender with his head shaking no, headbutt them and then attempt to bite them.  He will get mad and throw his pacifier with force.  I've seen him hit the floor, attempt to bite the floor and then plop down on his stomach while kicking his legs in what might be a temper tantrum.  For now, all this behavior is kind of cute and funny, but I know I will need to watch it as he gets a little older.  Hopefully, some of his frustration will subside as he begins to walk more steadily and develop language.  Despite these little fits of anger, he has been giving me tight hugs and still likes to eat my face, which I will take anytime!
