2 Year Stats

Brennan saw the pediatrician yesterday. He completed his vaccinations, so we are set until age 4 now, when the next round begins. He grew 3 inches since his last appointment, measuring 37 inches in height (99%) and he weighed 29.4 pounds (68%.) The doctor said that when kids have a growth spurt like that, they sometimes dip in weight percentile because they don't eat enough to maintain weight at their new height, but it seems like Brennan is eating enough! Brennan seems to be hitting all his milestones, except that he hasn't started putting two words together. He has a big single word vocabulary, knows most of his letters, can communicate what he wants and understands everything you say to him. I haven't been overly concerned about him not putting words together, but was curious what the doctor would think. After the appointment, the doctor agreed that she didn't think there was a problem. She even commented on the fact he used 4 different ways to answer affirmatively during the appointment: uh-huh, yah, yes and okay. I'll just be watching his progress over the coming months. On other milestones, like walking, he took his time and didn't step out on his own until he knew he could walk without falling. And, when he first started building block towers, if the tower fell when he placed a block on top, he would swing at it, making it look like he tried to knock it over, like he was trying to save face. I can't help but wonder if he's waiting to put words together until he knows he can do it well. Maybe he'll come out with full sentences one of these days!

In other medical news, Brennan went to the dentist for the first time on Monday. Brennan got to meet the hygienist and sit in the exam chair, although he didn't get a cleaning. Then, we had a brief consultation with the dentist, who examined Brennan's teeth and gave him a fluoride treatment (painted a fluoride mixture on his teeth with a little brush.) The dentist noted that his teeth look fine and that his bottom two molars are about to rupture through, which wasn't a surprise. He also mentioned that Brennan's left front tooth is crooked due to his thumb sucking. I'm hoping that Brennan will wean himself in the coming year, so that it doesn't become an issue as he gets older.
