The Art Show

Friday night was the Kids Under Construction Art Show!  The school talks about this event a lot during the year, so I was excited to see what it would be like.  School was closed that morning for art show preparation.  We arrived at 6 PM ready to see what was on display.  Brennan's teacher had seasonal projects displayed from throughout the year.  Below is our little artist smiling for the camera with a Christmas Tree made out of egg cartons (the tree stump was made from cinnamon sticks.)  Brennan accidentally pulled his off the wall, so it came home with us that night :)  Next to the trees are snow flakes made from popsicle sticks with buttons glued on them.
In the hall leading to his classroom was my favorite display of the evening.  The multi-dimensional beach scene.  The fish were created from fish prints.  The kids used real fish that they applied paint to and then made a print on paper.  (Brennan likes to point out that the fish was dead.)  Brennan was doing funny surfing (or something) poses in front of the display.
Each child decorated his or her own surfboard, which was coming out of the display.  I thought this looked great!
In the photo below, you can see the flowers against the wall, where the children's hands are the petals and their pictures were the center of the flower.  On the table were shakers made from gourds and rain sticks.
The hot air balloons were adorable as well.
Here is a shot of the classroom.  The parent/child project, the rockets, hung from the ceiling.  I didn't get a picture of the other side of the room, but there were also lemon and lime prints (made from lemons and limes that were painted and pressed on paper) and watermelon slices made from tissue paper.  We were also able to check out seedlings that each child planted in a small classroom garden.
After browsing the different classrooms, we headed to Gallihugh Hall, for an ice cream reception.  In the reception hall, there was a tree theme with Genesis 2:9 posted: And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground - trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.  Each class had a tree themed art project on display.  Brennan's class had puzzle piece trees hanging on the wall.  You can see Brennan wrote his own name (except for the "e"... he claims he can't do it - we're working on that.)
